Welcome to Scottish Country Recipes for the month of March... This month can be very cold with biting winds, so
I am going to share with you my recipe for a traditional Scottish Dish...Chilli.
Just joking but one thing we Scots are good at is taking on new ideas and playing with them, it's not all Haggis
and neaps !
This recipe will warm you through and leave you glowing and satisfied. Its very quick and simple to do so here
we go...
JANETS CHILLI...
Ingredients
500G of Minced Beef
1 small onion finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic
1 tin of chopped plum tomatoes
1 tin tomato puree
1 tin of red kidney beans well rinsed in cold water
a splash of good Scotch whisky is always a great addition
1 heaped teaspoon of golden caster sugar.
This is how to make it...
Brown the mince, then add the onion and brown for a further two minutes...
Add the garlic, tomatoes, tomato puree, kidney beans and the whisky if liked...
If you add the sugar now it will make the whole dish taste sweeter...
Simmer this for 40 minutes and serve with whole grain rice or pitta bread...Its lovely....
